Brass Horns, Sports and Associations
The Ahlström Corporation and the Ahlstrom family supported several recreational and cultural projects and associations in the Noormarkku area. The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare’s Noormarkku section, founded in 1924, received significant support over the decades in developing its operation. The company supported the League-operated daycare that ran in the factory school from 1940 to 1978, for example.
The company played a role in improving local sports facilities by donating both money and a former dairy building to the municipality of Noormarkku in 1945, which was converted into a sports hall. Additionally, the company donated a piece of land to serve as a sports ground.
In 1955, the company took part in founding the Local History Museum with the help of Maire Gullichsen when the old Kahan homestead was converted into a museum. The Noormarkku Homestead Association held its first meeting on 7 June 1955. A vast collection of artefacts was donated to the museum by Maire Gullichsen.
